WINTER WITH WOLVES
BIOGRAPHY
Winter With Wolves is the brainchild of Vancouver, Canada native singer-songwriter and musician Kevin Karlstrom. Karlstrom fuses a wide range of musical elements to create a genre-blurring epic rock sound. The music, while ambitious and sometimes even bombastic and grandiose in magnitude, maintains a level of sincere introspection lyrically. With a background in classical music, Karlstrom graduated with a degree in music from the University of British Columbia. The elements of classical music are definitely there in Karlstrom’s sophomore album Lazarus Son, with lush choral and orchestral harmonies in a number of the songs, but so are the influences of gospel in the title track Lazarus Son, rock in Sanctuary, pop in Time After Time, hip-hop in Hunger Games, jazz in My Baby Don’t Like the Sunshine and even metal with Bates Motel Blues based in the first person on Norman Bates from Psycho. Each song is its own entity, hard to confine and categorize in a neat box, and Karlstrom shows an adept proficiency moving seamlessly through genres seeking to expand the sonic palate. Lazarus Son will continually surprise and captivate the listener. Currently, working on his third album, Karlstrom describes the new songs as more “upbeat”, “up-tempo” and “groove based.”
